PLANNING EVENTS FOR WiH MONTH!

ABarbeau WIHRM mentionAs we get closer to the end of 2009 it’s time to start really thinking about the first Annual Women in Horror Recognition Month events!  Please send in your plans for how you are going to recognize women working in horror for this Feb 2010. I will then be able to start working on the Events page of this website. This is useful because:

1. You might see that someone is planning an event near where you live that you can attend and/or help out with!

2. See where there is major shortages of events and plan some of your own

3. Get inspired by the action of others

etc!

Please leave a comment with your idea: big or small and lets start a list going of events that will be taking place.

SO– WHAT ARE YOU DOING THIS FEB 2010!? Here is the list of ideas I have…please contemplate what your able to do and what ideas you might have that I didn’t list (post them so I can add them to this list!)

  • Host a local film screening BIG OR SMALL! Rent out space for a big event or just have a smaller gathering in your living room with friends, and show movies made by women!
  • Write a blog post(s) on your blog/website about Women who deserve attention and/or any subject matter revolving around women/horror/recognition
  • Write to horror magazines about women who aren’t in the pages!
  • Host a Women Horror Writers Reading at a local bookstore/or in your living room
  • Host an art show to showcase female horror artists
  • COME UP WITH YOUR OWN BRILLIANT IDEA AND SHARE IT WITH US!

I also would love for people to document the events once they happen. Send photos/video so I can post it all and we can have a record of the events!

REMEMBER: WOMEN IN HORROR MONTH IS IN EACH OF OUR HANDS.  IF YOU ENVISION IT A CERTAIN WAY THEN THAT IS HOW IT WILL BE. IT IS EXECUTED THE WAY YOU CHOOSE. I just want us to all be in support as best we can and help each other out and document the process.

For example, the awesome  Nia Edwards-Behi used the banner Mary Goff made for this site, text from the manifesto, and a quote about WiH Month she got from Paul Solet (writer/director of GRACE) to create her own flyer and gave it out at a local film event she helped put on last month. You can create your own flyers/teeshirts/whatever to help spread the word with your own art, quotes, etc. It’s all about having fucking fun and bringing attention to women in the horror industry who work damn hard and deserve some fucking bloody love! xo If you do anything like that i’d love to get a copy and put it up on the site to share with everyone!

NOW: LEAVE COMMENTS ON YOUR THOUGHTS/PLANS/IDEAS/QUESTIONS!

Wheeeee! :D I’m hoping to write an essay and probably a few blog posts! Depending on time and resources I might see if I can host a screening or something too! :D

  • We will gather forces and do something spectacular– plans are under way. Is there anything exciting in your neck of the woods, we’ve been looking for any excuse to visit you, dearest Hannah. Thank you for giving women in horror a month to shine!

Going to return some video tapes,

  • Hey :) I’m seriously considering organising a Horror Walk (much like a zombie walk!) to celebrate! I’m going to start a facebook group, add the hordes and see what happens! Think it’d be a great visual way to make a mark! Could also be good publicity wise :)

  • I have been working on an idea in my cranium for the past few nights. For the month of February, I will be featuring posts on female characters in horror films that have been an influence in the genre and have been recognized over the years (including Ripley from the Alien franchise and other well-known female characters in horror films).

Posts will include the famous lines from the characters and a brief character profile. And it would have my personal thoughts on the female characters and what they mean to a female horror blogger such as myself.

This is a rad idea! Please send me the info once you decide to make it official with the following info:

      Event Name
Date (this will be an on going event I assume throughout the month?)
      Website URL
and contact info for people to email you if possible
and a brief description of the plan. Which you pretty much already said ;)

      YAY!!! email me: lickmylit@gmail.com

  • Hey,
Just wanted to let all who are interested about my plans for Women in Horror month. The whole month of Feb. on my blog I am highlighting female horror villains – because without villains, horror would be a very lonely place. Plan to spotlight one each day, quite an undertaking but I’ve already started prepping. So feel free to add me to the “events” page.
    Thanks!

  • You are an inspiration, thank you:)
